After two top Cabinet ministers quit on Tuesday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in the midst of his gravest crisis to yet.
Following days of increasing pressure on Downing Street on the handling of claims of sexual misconduct by a member of the cabinet, the health secretary, Sajid Javid, and the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, both resigned.
Although Johnson has survived numerous hurricanes throughout his tenure as prime minister, this one might be too many.
What you should know is as follows.
On June 30, Chris Pincher submitted his resignation from the ministry in response to claims of sexual misconduct.
On June 30, Chris Pincher submitted his resignation from the ministry in response to claims of sexual misconduct.
Where did we come from?
The immediate source of the situation was the impact from Deputy Chief Whip Chris Pincher’s resignation last Thursday, which came in response to claims that he had grabbed two guests at a private dinner the previous evening.
Johnson, however, got into more difficulties because of the absurd positions that press officials from Downing Street took when attempting to justify Pincher’s appointment to the administration in the first place.
At first, Downing Street claimed that the Prime Minister was aware of the claims, which pertained to Pincher’s time as a Foreign Office minister, but further information about Pincher’s past behavior surfaced in the wake of his resignation.
When it became evident that this could not stand, Johnson’s staff said that although he was aware of the prior accusations, they had been “settled.”
Another dilemma is gripping Boris Johnson. This time, the outcome may truly be decisive.

Johnson’s spokeswoman clarified that “resolved” may imply that one of the previously undisclosed allegations against Pincher had been confirmed when it became known that it had.
Then, on Tuesday morning, Simon McDonald, the former top official at the Foreign Office, disclosed that Johnson had received a personal briefing regarding the findings of an inquiry into Pincher’s conduct, which prompted a wave of resignations throughout the day.
What follows is what?
For the time being, Boris Johnson is still in charge of his own destiny.
According to the rules of the Conservative Party, a leader who wins a vote of confidence is exempt from being challenged for a year. On June 6, Johnson survived a vote on his support.
The current crisis, though, is so severe that it’s feasible that the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbench MPs would change the laws to remove the Prime Minister.
Two top UK government ministers resigning is a major setback for Boris Johnson

The 1922 executive is anticipated to meet on Wednesday to set a date for its committee elections. The odds of the rules altering drastically increase if a sizable enough percentage of anti-Johnson MPs are voted to the administration.
The fundamental question up to that time is how much public humiliation the Prime Minister can withstand.
It is almost inevitable that more ministers will quit, and sources in the opposition are excited about the possibility of defections.
What would happen if Johnson quit?
A general election is not always called in the UK when a prime minister resigns.
In the event that Johnson resigned, the Conservative Party would nominate a new leader, who would then take office as prime minister.
As Theresa May and David Cameron did when they resigned in May 2019 and June 2016, respectively, Johnson would likely stay in office until a replacement had been selected.
The new Prime Minister would then serve as the country’s leader until the next planned election in 2024, barring another resignation or an early election.
